Managing Difficult Situations with Assertive Behaviour

Assertiveness helps to develop and build confidence. In today's world, being assertive is seen as a valuable communication tool and essential for progress and successful interaction with colleagues and clients alike. When most people talk about wanting to be more assertive, what they usually really mean is:

'How can I become more able to resist the pressure and dominance of excessively dominant people?'

'How can I exert a little more control in situations that are important to me?'

For people who are not naturally assertive, it is possible to achieve an effective level of assertiveness through certain simple methods and techniques. The ability to behave assertively shapes the impact individuals have on colleagues and contacts. It enables them to directly influence the respect, co-operation and support they receive in return.
